Georgia Mill Planning Downtime

Jordan Forest Products in Barnesville, Ga. is closing its lumber manufacturing plant during the months of November and December. The 91 workers there were notified on October 18 of the scheduled downtime that has been blamed on “a poor market and downward economy,” according to Robert Jordan, president of JFP.

The plan is to reopen the mill on January 2 and all employees will be brought back. Workers will also receive unemployment assistance while the plant is closed.

Jordan Forest Products is based in Mount Gilead, N.C. and has four plants in that state. Jordan purchased the Barnesville operation from Weyerhaeuser in 2004. The Barnesville plant is the only facility that will close, Jordan said, adding that they will use the time off to service equipment and perform upgrades.
