SPIB Announces Planer Operator Course
The planer operator course from the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau provides attendees with some fundamentals that anyone involved in operating a planer needs to know—but will be especially valuable for operators and trainees, QC and process technicians and all related supervisors. SPIB instructors Jeff Judd, area manager, and William Griffin, lumber and treating specialist, will lead the group in discussing how to troubleshoot planer defects for improved quality and grade. Several equipment vendors will participate to cover topics such as size control, finish and knife maintenance, proper feeding, and alignment.
The course will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, Pensacola Beach, Fla. April 21-22, 2026. Tuesday the course will run until 3 p.m. with a reception held immediately following class. Wednesday will finish at 12:00 p.m.
Cost is $600 and attendees are responsible for their own hotel arrangements. Tuesday’s lunch and all course materials are included in registration costs.
