Two longtime Maine family-owned businesses have joined forces as Robbins Lumber, Inc., Searsmont, has announced the acquisition of Limington Lumber Co., East Baldwin. Under the acquisition, Limington Lumber will operate as Robbins Lumber East Baldwin, with management and operations staying under the guidance of Win Smith.

Established in 1961, Limington Lumber is a second-generation manufacturer of quality eastern white pine located in the Saco River Valley of southwestern Maine. The bandmill, planer mill, and dry kilns produce 17MMBF in dozens of patterns annually. The last two decades have seen an aggressive modernization program: A Weinig Waco Maxi planer, PHL 36-bin sorter and gradeline, PHL optimizer edger with Autolog controls, Verville four station bagging system with auto stapling, Hurst 250 HP boiler system, along with 10 Irvington Moore dry kilns with a total capacity of 430MBF.

Today, Robbins Lumber Inc. owns and manages 30,000 acres and buys logs from over 150 independent loggers. Milling operations are located on a 40-acre site in Searsmont that includes a 1.2 MW co-generation plant, 675MBF kiln capacity kilns, computerized sawmill, planing mills, cut up shop, 70,000 sq. ft. of warehouse, and the company’s general offices.

According to the companies, this is a synergy of two, highly compatible eastern white pine mills that have a longtime friendship and mutual respect for the industry and each other.
