Klausner-Enfield Deal Is Near

Mayr-Meinhof Holz, which lost out in September 2020 on the bid and acquisition of the bankrupt Klausner Lumber One sawmill in Live Oak, Fla. to Binderholz Group, was the preliminary round bid leader (Stalking Horse bidder) for the bankrupt Klausner Lumber Two sawmill in Enfield, NC with a bid of $30 million (U.S.). Other interested companies have until December 5 to participate in the bid process, with the final auction scheduled December 10.

The greenfield Klausner sawmill at Enfield reportedly had produced some green lumber before it went under, unlike the Live Oak sawmill, which had reached green end and dry end production. Construction at Enfield began in 2015 and over the years several setbacks and delays plagued the operation. Klausner shut it down this past March.

Austria-based Binderholz won the Klausner Lumber One sawmill at $61 million, with Mayr-Meinhof Holz the runnerup bidder. Also involved in the Live Oak sawmill bidding was Mercer International of Vancouver.

Mayr-Meinhof Holz is based in Leoben, Austria and operates multiple sawmill, wood processing and wood pellet production facilities in Austria, Germany Czech Republic and Russia.
