Keith Introduces New RX Technology To Improve Walking Floor Trailers
Keith Manufacturing Co. has unveiled its new RX technology platform, the company’s first major redesign of its Walking Floor drive system in more than a decade. Developed to improve reliability, simplify maintenance, and increase unloading efficiency, the new platform includes two drive options, with the RX2 designed specifically for most wood-products hauling applications.
According to Keith, the RX Technology platform was built by addressing common issues identified through years of field experience. The redesigned drive eliminates several adjustment-intensive components found on previous systems, reducing potential wear points and helping deliver more consistent performance over time.
One of the most notable changes is a cartridge-style check valve system that allows components to be replaced quickly using a single wrench, reducing service time and trailer downtime. The platform also incorporates integrated temperature sensors and automatic over-temperature protection to help prevent hydraulic damage caused by excessive oil heat—a common source of premature system failures.
The RX2 introduces a two-cylinder drive design that unloads a standard 48-ft. trailer in approximately four minutes while reducing overall system weight. The lighter design allows operators to maximize payload capacity without sacrificing durability.
Keith also redesigned the floor configuration, utilizing an 80% moving and 20% stationary slat arrangement to improve push force while reducing hydraulic strain. Combined with a simplified hydraulic circuit and high-flow filtration system, the result is a cleaner-running drive with fewer potential leak points and lower maintenance requirements.
The company says these improvements can help reduce total cost of ownership for fleets operating high-mileage trailers in demanding mill environments.
The RX platform also features an updated electric control system with optional manual override and simplified single-action controls intended to reduce operator training time and minimize user error.
For operators hauling chips, sawdust, and other residual materials, Keith recommends pairing the RX2 with its CleenSweep tarp system. The system automatically pulls a tarp across the trailer floor during unloading, helping remove residual material, reducing manual cleanout, and speeding trailer turnaround.
While the RX2 is expected to meet the needs of most chip and biomass fleets, Keith also introduced the RX3, a three-cylinder drive unit designed for higher-density materials and more demanding duty cycles.
The RX Technology platform represents the next generation of Keith’s Walking Floor systems, with a focus on improving reliability, reducing maintenance, and helping fleets move more material with less downtime.
The new RX Drive is scheduled to be available in October 2026.
