An Arizona sawmill on the Fort Apache reservation in the eastern part of the state is reopening, thanks to a $10 million loan.

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick announced the funding Monday to the White Mountain Apache Tribe. She says it will go toward repairing and replacing equipment, and rebuilding the log deck at the Fort Apache Timber Company.

Tribal Chairman Ronnie Lupe estimates that 185 jobs will be created with the opening of the tribally owned sawmill in Whiteriver.

Kirkpatrick says it also ensures the tribe has a role in a massive forest restoration project in Arizona.
